Measure usable space, not the door frame alone
Consider how far a door opens, protruding handles and the space available immediately beyond it. Check hallway turns, stair landings and any low ceiling. Record the dimensions of the fixed furniture frame after any agreed removal of legs or sections. Soft cushions do not define the size of a rigid sofa.
Discuss preparation instead of forcing a fit
Some furniture can be dismantled, while other construction may be unsuitable for repeated disassembly. Describe the item and ask who will prepare it. Door removal, property alterations, window access and specialist lifting are not standard inclusions. If measurements remain uncertain, say so before a collection is booked.
A useful access note includes
- The limiting doorway or turn and its measured space.
- The item dimensions in the condition it will travel.
- Any preparation already agreed with the owner or seller.
